The World of Stonehenge
at the British Museum in London
Past Exhibition

Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England. The monument's sheer size, along with its alignment with the summer solstice, has made it the centre of myth and folklore for centuries. This exhibition takes us on a journey back to Neolithic times to learn about the people and societies surrounding such monuments. Among the most celebrated objects are the bronze age Nebra Sky Disc, the world's oldest surviving map of the stars found in Germany. These objects help us understand the beliefs and rituals of early European peoples.
